APPLEHEAD (Tokyo)

Music

With Mayutan, Candy & Fredy

Populated with human soft toys and other fabulous creations, the world of Applehead takes its shapes from the imaginary world of childhood and animal documentaries. As a pouncing pink cat, Mayutan sings about her adventures with her voice distorted by helium, whilst her two rabbit friends, Candy and Fredy, balance digital, skipping techno-pop. Impregnated with the spirit of the Eighties’ New Wave, Applehead use electronic guitars and drums to transform nursery rhymes into unique FM hits.

From a very early age, Mayutan, Candy and Fredy have shared a passion for the music of Devo, the Yellow Magic Orchestra, Jun Togawa and Queen. When they met and formed Applehead, Candy and Fredy started to arrange Mayutan’s songs. Her fantasy choreography and singular voice (sometimes used for voiceovers for adverts), he linking of improbable accoutrements became the group’s brand. Applehead is currently working on integrating cartoons into her stage performances.
