Music
With Yoshimitsu Ichiraku
Doravideo is a screen and a mixer. Like hammer blows and alternating at the speed of light between play, fast rewind, forward or pause on its drums/remote control, Yoshimitsu Ichiraku, the soul and right arm of Doravideo, interacts with a series of images that crash together on the screen: Uma Thurman cutting off heads; George Bush and Kim Jong Il galvanizing their troops; Kiss giving a live performance… The sequences jostle and then mix with each other. The dull growl of the drums becomes part of the soundtrack, as the rhythm of the images jerkily accompanies the movements.
The Doravideo project, the drum/computer interface of which has been developed by Takayuki Ito, saw Yoshimitsu Ichiraku overcoming a triple challenge: playing solo, winning over an uninitiated public and forcing the international artistic scene to recognize him (Honorable Mention for Digital music in the Prix Ars Electronica of 2005). Deliberately shocking and deliciously provocative, Doravideo is sure to provoke a reaction from the lovers of good taste.
