Satanicpornocultshop Orochi Under The Straight-Edge Leaves (VIVO, VIVO-017, CD 2005) electronica / hip hop Price: € 14.00 |
The seventh full-length album from the ever-prolific Satanicpornocultshop finds their frazzling, hyper-dense mode of information cut-up further refined as razor-sharp pop satire. “Orochi...” is an unusual, utterly unclassifiable mixture of squelchy electronics, pop songs, digital noise, easy-listening homage, hip-hop collage, and assorted sonic clutter bent and stretched into surreal contortions. Whether on the reggae inflections of “Porque Te Vas” or “Dreams Are My Reality (Reprise)”, the hyper-informatic hip-hop of the Snoop Dogg-sampling “Dop_Jod...” or even the digitally scrambled covers of songs by Missy Elliott or Vashti Bunyan, Satanicpornocultshop’s anarchically intricate grasp of music-as-sound is as uniquely uncompromising as ever. Satanicpornocultshop Zap Meemees (SONORE, SON-22, CD 2005) electronica/ bricolage hip hop Price: € 14.00 |
Hallelujah vs. Allah is Great !! The definitive album of the demented Osaka collective Satanicpornocultshop. Surrealist hip hop with a slightly perverse and grotesque touch, Zap Meemees gathers blasting singles, remixes and compilation tracks composed between 2002 and 2005. Far out sounds and overwhelming (de-)construction skills. Essential. |

Satanicpornocultshop Anorexia Gas Balloon (SONORE, SON-21, CD 2003) electronica/ bricolage hip hop Price: € 14.00 |
Their fifth album, released on SONORE. Puzzling hip hop with a surrealistic touch and new technology know-how. They are the latest absurdists; it's as if Fluxus were spying on pop music hits and vice versa. Slightly satirical with a fancy for disco and ultimate grooves; cultivating a limitless yet always tasty musical flavor, they brilliantly summarize all current musical trends. |

Satanicpornocultshop Ugh Yoing (NU NULAX NULAN, NUCD-1950, CD 2002) electronic / bricolage hip hop Price: € 14.00 |
“Burn you inner Kinkaku-ji” is the motto for Satanicpornocultshop's fourth album. The Kinkaku-ji is a gorgeous golden Buddhist temple in Kyoto that was set on fire in 1950 by a monk who could no longer take its arrogant and insulting beauty. The splendid collage cover by Ugh is a rip-off of Dior’s OR ad. “Ugh” is the sound of puking, “Yoing” is the sound of yo-yo. |

Satanicpornocultshop Music for Meu-Meu's Puppet Show (NEJI, NEJI-85, CD-R 2005) electronic / hip hop BACKORDER |
No idea what Satanicpornocultshop affiliate Meu-Meu’s puppet show really was about, or if it even really was: nevertheless it landed a truly excellent 25-minute soundwork coup courtesy of the Osaka collective. Raising Capital eschews beats for the whole of its duration, focusing instead on natural timbres. Western and Asian strings, a whole lot of percussion, metallic droning backdrops, all given much more breathing space than in the usually over-clustered Satapo soundworld. Here and there bringing to mind John Zorn’s more esoteric soundtrack works, this piece has far enough Indonesian occult rites and creepy circus music to make one shiver – puppet show or not, there’s definitely some dark power pulling strings here. | Conceal | Baptized Troopers | 2005 | € 16.00 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Conceal brings Satanicpornocultshop’s Ugh together with ambient tweaker and noted visual artist Bayion, owner of the Brain Escape Sandwich label. Whereas much of the beauty of Satapo’s explosive sampling work lies in the way it deals with tiny splinters of sonic nostalgia, Conceal goes for a much more controlled but no less compelling click-hop attack on “Baptized Troopers”, veering from the slick and danceable to the convulsive and demented, making out with the beat and screwing the motorik. Highlighting their kinship with the likes of Prefuse 73 and, most notably, the Mouse on Mars of “Niun Niggung” and “Idiology”, this is excellent, and unescapably fun, beat-oriented material. | Dag Shen Ma | S/T | 2005 | € 9.00 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A welcome addition to the Neji CD-R catalogue by the Satanicpornocultshop alumni Dag Shen Ma. Electronics wizard Dag goes a much more subdued way with his sound trickery on this solo release than the Satapo collective did on recordings such as Anorexia Gas Balloon and Zap Memees : although some of the clunky ghosthouse atmosphere of these records remains, the proceedings here are much barer - Dag Shen Ma toys around with but a few sounds on a dozen tracks that are slowly stripped of their agitation but gain in depth along the way; the second half of the record being without doubt much more satisfying. This final half-dozen disintegrated loopworks are something that Satapo aficionados will want to check out. (Luc Meier) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| MC Frosen Pine | Yu No Mu Se In? | € 12.00 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Aleatory lyricist, the young Japanese MC Frosen Pine plays with words like an illiterate linguist. Mimicking foreign languages: English, French and even Korean, Frosen Pine skills are ambiguous: is he trying to explore the intrinsic mysteries of idioms, or is he just unable to write his own lyrics? Only time will tell. Frosen Pine is a new member of Satanicpornocultshop, a fact that somehow explains the remarkable album production work inevitably done by Ugh.

| Ugh | Remix 2 | 2005 | € 9.00 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Ugh, mastermind of Osaka sampling pranksters Satanicpornocultshop, works miracles on this wacked remix collection issued through Satapo’s own CD-R imprint NEJI. Consistent with Satapo’s constant reconfiguration of their own material throughout releases, the elements wildly pieced together here will sound just as familiarly off-kilter to anyone already acquainted with their craft. But the presence of all the “remixed guests” (most of whom, be sure of it, hadn’t asked for any such favour in the first place) actually pushes Ugh’s aesthetic to its brink. Just as anarchic and shredded-up as it is delving in heartfelt sonic nostalgia, this is actually another touchstone in the Satanicpornocultshop canon. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| V/A | Disco_r.dance Vol.1 | 2006 | € 18.00 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This double disk compilation is the first release of the disco_r.dance label, which serves as a recorded ouput for the londonian events of the same name. They've mainly gathered electronica acts, but have also welcomed performance artists, poets, magicians...And so, even though most of these 32 tracks consist in dark, twisted compositions, a pretty open-minded spirit breezes through: there's digital folk by Tuung, bastard techno-rock by Agaskodo Teliverek, Bedouin Ascent's peculiar mix of Arab music and breakbeats, a short tale by Guy J. Jackson and many more surprises. In fact, many of the more "conventional" tracks offer an original perspective on a genre coming short of fresh blood. The great ECD is given the remix treatment by Ugh from Satanicpornocultshop, who also deliver a particularly breathtaking track, shattering pipa, percussion and ghostly Delay Lama all over Kylie's pretty digital world, before abandoning her in a lonely part of the forest. Comes with 5 different covers. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| V/A | Nippon Gueva Gueva | 2005 | € 9.00 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Another strange affair coming from Satanicpornocultshop’s CD imprint, this compilation offers a broader and even more confusing panorama of the Osaka-based collective’s network. There’s not-even-so-leftfield J-rock, buzzing electronics, scratched-out punkrock, pachinko drum n’ bass, your monthly share of enka and plenty more wonderful things to grab on this 15-track, 60-minute CD, making it a great introduction to the Neji and Satapo worlds or another great treat for fans. Featuring Ugh, Dag Shen Ma, the Eto Bando, Orionza, With The Leazents, Gab, and many others. (Luc Meier) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| V/A | Shock vs Crime!!! Eto Band Remixes | 2005 | € 9.00 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Eto Band’s spastic workouts get the remix treatment on this CD-R compilation, getting most of the extended Satanicpornocultshop galaxy to take care of their micro-ditties. Unsurprisingly, songs get longer and groovier, with some nasty, noisy shitstorms framing a collection of genre exercises in sleazy dance music. Good fun for the disco masses, although prior knowledge of Eto’s Matsuri or Eto Bando is a prerequisite – or you may end up thinking “Crime, Knife, Gun, Thanxxx!!!” really was a worldwide hit.
