applehead

Mayutan is a pink and fluffy being, accidentally touching down on earth after a journey gone wrong through outer space in search of a lost pet. Finding life on our planet to her liking, this extraterrestrial android decided to stay on. One day at the local supermarket, R40, she made friends with two rabbit-like forty year-olds, Fredy and Candy. They started a band together and settled on the name applehead. Mayutan likes planet Earth (ILCQ = I love chikyu) and enjoys exploring it. All is well, so long as no one treads on her tail.

But don’t be taken in by a cute story. This electro-fur pop ensemble has real bite (was Snow White really a virgin?). Fascinated by 80s new-wave (Devo and YMO), applehead are also into and part of today’s techno pop scene. Operating out of the electro zone of Akihabara, they have plenty in common with the manga-otaku-cosplay tendencies of the neighbourhood, not least in terms of their looks. They are in with the techno pop kids who’re on the rise in Tokyo right now (Binary Kidd, Urbangarde, Souchi Megane) but are also close to proud veterans like Techma! and Mecha-Elvis.

With a strong leaning towards visual fantasy, applehead live shows are a real party filled with blow-up animals and luminous decorations. Several successful appearances in France, notably at the LEX festival in Nîmes in 2007 and in Paris not far from Bimbo Tower and Dragibus, and applehead have decided to put out their debut album. A perfect hands-on production by the band themselves along with mastering from the incomparable Nagata Kazunao (ExT Recordings), give the album rare stature.

CHIMIDORO

A recent off-shoot from label Tokyo Fun Party, which puts on some of the hottest parties in the capital, Chimidoro is turning electronica on its head. With an original line-up of a DJ, a bassist and 2 MCs, Chimidoro project an off-beat sense of humour alongside unrelenting musical effectiveness. With tracks like “Royal Milk Tea” and “Shigoto Shitakunai” (I don’t want to go to work), Chimodoro fire up the dancefloor and drive the girls crazy.

SONORE NETWORK

Since 1998, Sonore label has continued to release some of the most internationally acclaimed cutting-edge artists. With a fancy for experimental electronic music, our catalogue gathers a bunch of quick-witted and ingenious talents who never shy from pushing limits.

"Sonore seems to be rapidly becoming one of the most intrinsically daring electronic labels around, with these two releases acting as a neat primer of its boldly explorative, decidedly experimental modus operandi."
(Allan Harrison, Grooves Magazine, USA 2006)

Satanicpornocultshop

A mesmerising, art-damaged assemblage of what seems like billions of audio fragments sifted from the refuse of an increasingly dumb globe-mass culture, each contorted into fun, furiously elliptical sonic sculptures.

Satoru Wono

"Sonata for Sine Waves and White Noise" does for electronic music what Jeff Koons did for the visual arts, to subvert the audience's perception of the immediate exterior with a sense of street smart satire.

AKANE HOSAKA

Debut Album!! Release Date: 10th June 2008?

(SONORE, SON-27, CD 2008)

"A debut album straight out the electropop workshop, ringing with sounds à la Perrey&Kingsley, mastering by Kazunao Nagata (ExT Recordings)."

Release Party :

14th of June 2008 at Super Deluxe in Tokyo

With her lunging rhythms and deliciously retro melodies, Akane Hosaka catapults us into a world of gleeful wallabies and drummer-boy monkeys. Her discovery of music came through song, and only later led to instrumental experimentation.References to her early influences, the 60s and 70s precursors of electropop, are deliberate, there for all to see: Raymond Scott, Perrey & Kingsley or Yellow Magic Orchestra. Nevertheless her true inspiration is from the visual world and lies in graphic forms and architectural fantasy:Keiji Ito, Archigram or Bruno Munari. For her, these images evoke musicthat she then sets about transcribing.Naturally reserved, she’s a perfectionist in her work. Seeing her in the studio is like watching a blacksmith in the smithy, as she bends her music into the required shapes.

Her compositions are like pastel-coloured soap bubbles in extra-bright Super 8.
